Like many of us, Jeff S. started collecting hockey cards when he was younger. And also like many collectors, as time goes on and life starts happening, you slowly fall out of the hobby.
But in 2024, something clicked, and Jeff decided it was time to dive back in.
“Love the sport of hockey, so hockey cards are just another facet of expressing that,” Jeff said.
One thing that makes Jeff’s collection unique is the connection between cards and real-life experiences. Whenever possible, he likes picking up cards from local card shops near arenas while traveling for games, giving certain cards extra meaning tied to specific memories and trips.
His main PC is Matt Boldy, largely because of Boldy’s style of play and what he brings to the game, especially with the Minnesota Wild.
When asked about his favorite card in his collection, Jeff pointed to his 2024–25 The Cup Jerseys Trios card featuring Kaprizov, Boldy, and Faber /40.
“Hoping to get that hand signed one day by all 3 players,” he said. “Just a great card that reflects the team aspect of the game.”
One of Jeff’s favorite hobby moments came recently after completing his 2025–26 Allure Matt Boldy rainbow, something that took a lot of hunting across marketplaces, auctions, and plenty of patience.
“Finally completing that set felt amazing and definitely accelerated my passion for the hobby,” Jeff said.
As for advice to newer collectors?
“At the end of the day, we are all trading and paying for cardstock with laminate. Be wary of the market, but also know that the true value is whatever you assign to it.”
